Is there a tomorrow?

Our time is split between work family and home, the last thing we put on our calendar is time for ourselves. We have a tendency to say “I’ll get to it tomorrow” when it comes to our own needs. Tomorrow never comes, before you know it the week is over and even the month, and you still haven’t put that time aside for yourself.

Are you the type that puts everyone else first?

Do you find yourself going into work early to get a handle on the day? Do the kids need a ride here there and everywhere? Dry cleaning, groceries, the post office. “What’s for dinner?” at what point is the list of things to-do ever done? The answer is never, but that’s ok because we love our family and would walk a thousand miles for them. It’s when we allow others needs to take precedence over our own that there can potentially be a problem.

How can we take better care of ourselves?

First we need to be more mindful of our own needs. Do you know what they are? Many of us don’t know what it is we really need. We focus on others before ourselves. We are givers not takers! But giving can leave us empty inside. Sometimes it takes a bit of digging to find out what they are. Journaling helps. I have a tendency to put everyone else first, without giving thought about myself. At the end of the day I’m exhausted and realize, after the dust has settled, that I neglected to do something for me. But here’s where the the problem lies……I’m really not sure what my needs are! I’ve been so busy with others needs that I’ve neglected myself. (I take full responsibility for this choice) SO I have come to the conclusion that….

There has to be a better way!

I have recently started journaling, reading and exercising in the morning. I am actually setting my alarm for 5:00 am so that I have 90 minutes to myself before the house wakes up and the morning routine begins. I have to say giving myself that time every morning is a blessing! It’s my time and I am able to give more to my family because I have already met my needs. I have a clearer head and I’m already feeling like I’ve conquered the world.

The next step
